FIBA Asia 2013 in Manila

It’s exciting to know that the FIBA Asia 2013 Championship for Men will be hosted by our country and the Filipinos shall stand a chance to witness such a momentous event. This intercontinental championship shall serve as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup which shall take place in Spain in 2014.

This much anticipated tournament will be held from August 1 – 11, 2013 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The FIBA Asia 2013 championship is supposed to be held in Beirut, Lebanon. However, the FIBA Asia Executive Committee decided to hand over the hosting rights to the Philippines due to the Syrian civil war which has affected the current situation of Lebanon. Also, there are concerns for the people’s security in the Middle East, so this is believed to be a good decision

Listed below is the schedule for the opening rounds. Results for the preliminary rounds shall determine the flow of the game.

August 1, 2013 (Thursday)

Morning Session

3:30 pm – Japan VS Qatar

Evening Session

5:45 pm – China VS Korea

8:30 pm – Saudi Arabia VS Philippines

10:30 pm – Lebanon VS Hong Kong

August 2, 2013 (Friday)

Morning Session

11:00 am – China VS Malaysia

1:15pm – Chinese Taipei VS Saudi Arabia

3:30 pm – Japan VS Hong Kong

Evening Session

5:45 pm – Korea VS Iran

8:30 pm – Jordan VS Philippines
